PSBR Sponsors TSA Essay Contest

The Pennsylvania Technology Student Association (TSA) recently expressed its appreciation of the Pennsylvania Society for Biomedical Research (PSBR) for sponsoring its annual Biomedical Research Career essay contest.  Awards were given to 11 middle and high school students with an additional award to statewide winners.

“Activities like these that encourage students’ interest in science and scientific careers are in keeping with PSBR’s mission,” said John S. Ellis, Ph.D., PSBR Executive Director. PSBR sponsored the event last year, as well.

“PSBR appreciates opportunities to partner with groups like TSA to ensure the next generation of scientists,” he said.

“It’s (the essay contest) an excellent opportunity to learn about a major technological career pathway in our society,” said Dennis C. Gold, TSA Pennsylvania Facilitator, Bureau of Career and Technology Education.

TSA is a statewide organization with more than 15,000 members in 48 middle and 73 high schools. It promotes science, technology, engineering and mathematics through personal growth, leadership and opportunities in technology, innovation and design.

Carlisle Student Thanks PSBR for TSA Essay Contest Sponsorship

Dear Dr. Ellis,

Thank you for granting me the opportunity to participate in the (TSA) Biomedical Research Essay Contest. This was a positive experience. It allowed me to learn more about careers in the biomedical field and to practice my writing skills, an invaluable capability. I was fortunate enough to be a regional winner at my local Technology Student Association competition. Thank you for allowing the Technology Student Association the chance to encourage students to explore the medical field. I hope the Pennsylvania Society for Biomedical Research continues to bestow this opportunity to the Technology Student Association, because it has helped me on my career path and may do the same for others. My plan is to major in biology and pursue a career as a physician’s assistant. Again, thank  you for this opportunity.

Sincerely,

A student from Carlisle, PA
