For several years, PSBR has annually distributed an
interactive children's calendar entitled "People and
Animals: United for Health," developed by the Massachusetts
Society for Medical Research. PSBR routinely presents
workshops and distributes educational materials at regional
and statewide science education meetings. This calendar and
its accompanying teacher's guide are sought-after items,
with demand always outstripping supply. Responses from
teachers are overwhelmingly favorable.
Each month's colorful poster illustrates a topic of interest to children, including dental health, heart disease, poison control, biodiversity, organ transplants, nutrition, AIDS, feline leukemia, diabetes, and infectious diseases. PSBR member facilities are encouraged to sponsor the calendar for their local school districts to open doors for researchers to convey their enthusiasm for science and basic research to students and to establish ongoing relationships with science teachers.
