Below are some links to ways that you can help animals. Before giving to a "animal welfare" charity, always research EXACTLY how your money will be used. Charity navigator - http://www.charitynavigator.org/ - offers some guidance. Be sure to read the reviews because the star rating may not indicate its "true" helping animals mission. When in doubt, give to your LOCAL humane society or shelter (which is not affiliated with HSUS).
The Pennsylvania Veterinary Foundation (PVF) established the The Last Chance Fund (TLC) in 2009 to help ensure a source of funding for the care of abused or neglected, unowned companion animals that might otherwise be euthanized or turned over to an animal shelter that is already overburdened. Paws and Stripes is a nonprofit organization providing service dogs for wounded military veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury through integrating service dog training and education with mental health support. Paws and Stripes help veterans so they can live the full and rich lives they deserve. Their dogs come only from local rescues. Their service dog trainers teach the dogs and the veterans as a team. The Red Paw Emergency Relief Team is an emergency services, nonprofit organization that works in conjunction with the American Red Cross, SEPA Chapter and other public and private disaster relief, social service, and animal welfare organizations to provide emergency assistance including emergency transport, shelter, and veterinary care to animals involved in fires and other residential disasters. Their mission is to provide relief and recovery for displaced pets and their people 24/7, free of charge and to ensure that ALL family members are taken care of during, and after, a disaster in their home. Pennsylvania State Animal Response Team (PA SART)
The Pennsylvania State Animal Response Team (PASART) was created through a private-public partnership to serve as a unifying network of organizations, businesses, federal, state, county and local government agencies, and individuals that supports the prevention, preparedness, response and recovery for emergencies affecting animals.
